Yes, you could develop the same thing through simply copying what you see, but it will take much longer than by practicing a focused exercise. Good design involves a balance between simple forms and details. By repeating this you create a habit of identifying the major planes of the forms and keeping those apparent through the finished drawing.

Am I being dense but I am not getting Robo Bean demo/theory….I understand the motive is to ensure depth and mass but does that not come with drawing, why bother? Did I miss a concept here, as I am just not getting it… I always love every session but this is missing me.
